Rotary IS International

Rotary's reach is International. And personal. We are also a perfect fit. For the life of Bikes for the World we have always been connected with local Rotary Clubs. They help us complete our mission, and we help them complete theirs! For some Clubs the support has been financial. Many of them combine forces with their student counterparts, in Rotaract and Interact.

Rotary is all about leveraging members' skills and expertise. By bringing together like minded, passionate neighbors and local businesses, Rotary creates a strong, unstoppable community capable of changing and improving the world. Exactly our goal, one bike at a time.

The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek just celebrated their 20th year collecting bikes for Bikes for the World. And at their annual April collection, held this year at Triangle Motors, they surpassed 7,500 bikes collected and donated into our program since 2006. Yes, they are the top collector.

Last year, RCCC expanded their goals and activities within the bike project. They embarked on a three year project to collect and ship 6,000 bikes to Rotary Clubs established in South Africa. This Global initiative partners with NGOs like BfW across three continents. BfW has committed to sending hundreds of bikes to support this project. We also purchased a container that will remain in place.

Last year a container of bikes arrived with Galashewe Youth Network through this effort. A shipping container was purchased and converted into a bicycle repair facility that will remain on site and service the bikes donated within the community. They are building a connected shelter to expand the shop where mechanics can work on and store bicycles.

The shipments of bikes, outside of creating excitement in the community, also create jobs and opportunities as well as provide exercise and recreation. The local Rotarians involved help facilitate the delivery of the bikes, establish the permanent bike shop and train mechanics, and oversee other related activities.

Our first shipment of 2025 was delivered to South Africa and arrived just last month. We collected bikes from the RCCCs storage site in Adamstown and a couple RCCC members, Ashley and Chris, helped us pack the container in January. This shipment was received by Grassroots Hope in Richmond South Africa. The Rotary Club of Empangeni, near Durban South Africa, serves as a critical logistics partner, ensuring safe delivery of the containers in Africa.
