Featured Volunteer: Molly and Reve
This may start with Molly and Reve but it doesn't end there. This is McLean School. And at McLean they appreciate that it does in fact take a village. Many of our volunteer sessions in the warehouse are with private schools in the area. Some schools have dedicated staff that oversee community service hours for their students.
Introducing Molly Love (left). Molly works with BfW just as the school year starts, looking ahead all the way to March just to ensure we can book time for them. And it's not just one class, one grade, or one session. We typically schedule half a dozen dates at a time. Admittedly the spring can get a little overwhelming with all the school groups coming through, but they also truly help keep our mission rolling smoothly.
And Reve Tortel (right) holds the keys. She's the wheels behind the force. Reve has been driving the kids to BfW for the last few years and she doesn't just sit in the bus with the AC blasting (although she will go out and warm up or cool down the bus before they leave). Reve LOVES coming to Bikes for the World. And as you can see above, she doesn't shy away from whatever needs done. But she does prefer compacting bikes in the front room OR loading a container.
Last year we hosted 56 different group sessions in our warehouse and 70% of them were school groups. In 2025, the McLean School students and campers logged 227 hours wrenching bikes. Yes, we also do Summer Camps. Those are some of the most critical hours, as our volunteer pool dwindles in the heat of summer. We've come to rely on our private school summer camps to guide us through June and July.
We just wanted to share the faces behind our student force of volunteers. Each school that we work with has a champion fighting for our cause. It's not always a dedicated Community Service counselor. Sometimes it's a teacher or club mentor. We love the flexibility and reliability McLean adds to our spring and summer schedule. And they also send plenty of staff to not only wrangle the students, but to work alongside them and help draw out their strengths while doing a new activity.
