We are just going to call this guy BP for Bike Pedal-er. We didn't ask his permission to use his name, but he seems like the kind of guy that if you Googled his name nothing would come up...and we aren't going to be the ones responsible for the first 'hit'. Mr. B handles quite a few volunteer tasks for us. Thinking back, we think he actually found us after a little research on the web, looking for a good non profit group to work with. Maybe it was Charity Navigator or Catalogue for Philanthropy or something. He liked our standing and started donating his time. That was several years ago.
Like most of our volunteers he started out in the shop where he continues to tinker today. But he also routinely picks up bikes from one of our undisclosed drop off locations...so as not to give you a hint as to where Mr. B rolls. This is a huge help to us and saves us a day when he don't have to dispatch a truck to grab these bikes. He was out of commission for a short while due to transportation issues. His trailer is just the perfect size for the job...and he made it himself!
He's a pretty handy dude. He definitely thinks outside the box and is always thinking about ways to simplify or improve daily tasks...from turning on lights to feeding the cat...he's got an app for that! Really, he is also our goto guy for all things IT specific. Random email spam from Russia...issues with software...hardware...he even wiped some of our donated computers so we could send them to our partners clean and ready to use.
He has also been helping lately with our container loadings where he works closely with Yvette making sure the right bikes are going into the container at the right time. When it's really hot, we want to make sure things run as smoothly as possible and Mr. B makes that happen. He's been a great asset to our team and we can't believe this is our first time telling you about him! Or is it? Maybe we already did and scheduled the message to self destruct and you can't even remember his name. Maybe.
