BfW and Salvadoran-American Humanitarian Foundation ship nearly 1000 bikes to El Salvador Print

Kids displaying bikes from the FUSAL programBikes for the World and the Chicago-based Working Bikes Cooperative have worked together to ship two containers holding nearly 1,000 bikes to the Fundación Salvadoreña para la Salud y el Desarrollo Humano (FUSAL), a 27-year-old non-governmental organization in El Salvador.  The collaboration, facilitated and funded by FUSAL's US-based arm, the Salvadoran-American Humanitarian Foundation, supports education and micro-business development in selected impoverished rural areas.

FUSAL directly supplies hospitals, clinics, health centers, orphanages, nursing homes, schools, and other non-government agencies with free medicines, medical equipment, nutritional supplements, and school supplies.

During its nearly three decades of work, FUSAL has distributed to beneficiaries over $400 million worth of humanitarian aid at less than 1% overhead expense, through programs in health, nutrition, education, income generation, as well as human and community development.
