1.       Accomplishments to Date
Through the end of June, Bikes for the World in 2008 has delivered more than 5,500 bicycles to programs serving the disadvantaged in Barbados, Costa Rica, Ghana, Panama, Uganda, AND the United States. This is a record pace making it more than likely that we will end the year breaking last year's previous annual mark of 7,900 bicycles shipped.  Information on specific programs will be forthcoming shortly, along with illustrative stories of individual beneficiaries. We've simply been too busy collecting and shipping bikes to pull together the information which we need to share with you-our supporters. Thank you for your support, and for your patience.

2.       Upcoming Loadings at King Farm and Tysons Help Needed this Weekend and Next (and in-between)
We are loading two containers over the next ten days, the first beginning tomorrow, Saturday July 12, at King Farm, and the second beginning on Thursday, July 17, and going through the weekend of July 19-20, at our Tysons Corner location.
We need at least two more adult and older teen volunteers tomorrow, and another two on Sunday, beginning at 9 am and continuing into the early afternoon, to help load and to assist younger "student service learning" volunteers to load the first shipment. Please contact Keith at koberg at verizon.net or 571-212-4139, or Mike at mike at bikesfortheworld.org or 301-461-5349, if you can make it.  The container at King Farm is destined for Goodwill Panama and is the third going to that program in 2008.
Volunteers are also needed at Tysons the following week-Thursday and Friday mornings beginning at 9 am, and Sunday afternoon beginning around 3:30 and going through 5:30 pm or so, to load a container bound for Ghana.

3.       August 2nd Open House & Picnic at King Farm
Mark your calendars! Come see our youth project and international storage & shipping facility at the historic King Farm, and enjoy the City of Rockville's picnic shelter, in company with BfW supporters and King Farm neighbors, on Saturday, August 2nd, from 11 am - 3 pm.  This is a great opportunity to build our community and thank you for your support.   Hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks will be supplied.    More info will be forthcoming shortly.
