Bikes for the World is a sponsored project of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA), a 501 (c) 3 charitable and educational organization. WABA's tax ID is #237305477. All donations to BfW are tax-deductible "to the extent provided by law"-- BfW provides a receipt good for tax purposes for ALL donations (material and financial). Bikes for the World suggests that each bicycle donation be accompanied by a $10 financial contribution, to defray a share of the costs of running the program. Per bike costs average close to $20, for collection (e.g., truck rerntal), shipping, website, bookkeeping, administration, etc. We pay five percent of income to our fiscal sponsor, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, to reimburse for payroll administration, audit, and the overhead of running an institution. Donations to BfW are eligible for most corporate matching gifts.
