It mobilizes community groups across the North American continent to indepndently collect and ship container-loads of bikes. Its current focus is on providing bikes in Africa to help students get to distant schools, and support health workers to fight AIDS. Bikes for the World and Bicycles for Humanity are looking at ways to work together towards these common objectives. Working Bikes Cooperative , Chicago Illinois USAwww.workingbikes.org Founded in 2001, WBC collects bicycles in the Chicago area and donates them overseas. WBC’s methodology differs slightly from most other collecting organizations in that it repairs and sells road bikes in the Chicago area, using the proceeds to pay a mechanic and the expenses of the international shipment of mountain and BMX bikes. Bikes Not Bombswww.bikesnotbombs.org, Roxbury, Massachusetts USA Bikes Not Bombs is a non-profit organization working for alternative transportation and community development locally as well as internationally. The group operates the Bicycle Recycling and Youth Training Center in Roxbury MA, to promote environmental education, meaningful employment, and safe sustainable communities, both in the Boston area and abroad.
